COLUMBIA - After initially putting two elementary schools on lock down, Columbia Public Schools put all schools on modified lock down during a police chase across Columbia Tuesday morning. A modified lock down means all schools lock their external doors.
The Columbia Public School District said Derby Ridge and Parkade Elementary were initially put on lock down due to a potential threat in the area.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol chase took place in north Columbia on Route PP. Eyewitness Spencer Ernst told KOMU 8 News he saw the officers setting up spikes just in front of the Casey's General Store. The suspect was headed south on PP and swerved into the gas station parking lot to avoid the spikes while several officers were in pursuit. The driver was behind the wheel of a red, late model 4-door sedan.
