UPDATE: Campus Lodge Stays Mum About Late Night Shooting
COLUMBIA - Residents at Campus Lodge said Friday they were unaware of the robbery and shooting that occurred late Thursday night. Several residents said Campus Lodge administration typically sends out text alerts, emails or paper notices when incidents occur on the property. The leasing manager at Campus Lodge confirmed management typically alerts residents of such incidents, but had not yet sent any correspondence out, due to corporate limitations.
The management would not give further details, and the corporate offices for Campus Lodge have not responded to KOMU 8 News requests for information.
Columbia Police officers responded to the robbery at the Campus Lodge Apartments just before midnight Thursday. While investigating the robbery, police were informed by a local hospital of a shooting victim.
Police said the victim of the gunshot wound, 20-year-old Antwine Jackson, was involved in the robbery. Police said Jackon had arrived at a Campus Lodge apartment to buy marijuana from residents at that apartment. According to police, Jackson entered a back bedroom where the marijuana was, then left the room to open the front door and allow two masked men, armed with handguns, into the apartment.
Police said the masked men stole the marijuana, during which time, the two residents of the apartment reported there was a gunshot they described as accidental. As the two masked men left, there was another gunshot.
Jackson was treated for minor injuries and is in custody of the police for robbery and armed criminal action.
Officer Latisha Stroer with the Columbia Police Department said there are no other specific suspects in the robbery. When asked about the victims, she said she expected there would be more arrests made in the case, but it was still under investigation.
