MORGAN COUNTY - An elderly couple died on Oak Hill Road in Morgan County and police are investigating the deaths as a homicide.
The couple both suffered fatal gunshot wounds. They lived on Oak Hill Road. Morgan County Sheriff Jim Petty said he believes the incident happened Monday night. The front door was damaged, and the police think it may have been a result of a forced entry for burglary, but are still investigating. A foot print believed to be the suspects has been recovered from inside the home.
An additional incident took place Tuesday about a mile away from the homicide. Deputies responded to a call at 5 p.m. where a man reported that his small caliber handgun was stolen last week. When the deputies approached a neighbor to question him, they noticed he had several self-inflicted knife wounds. The man proceeded to run into the woods. Deputies caught the man and brought him to Morgan County Jail where he was questioned.
The man in custody is not considered a suspect of the gun theft or the homicide, and there is no link of the stolen gun to the homicide weapon at this time. Morgan County Sheriff Jim Petty says more information will be released Wednesday morning.
