COLUMBIA - Thursday's concerning social media post involved a Hickman High School student holding a gun and making a terroristic threat, police said Friday.

The Columbia Police Department received information about a concerning social media post by a student around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Police say the post was a photo of a 15-year-old male student holding a gun in a photo on his Snapchat account. The photo was taken at 7:24 a.m. Thursday morning.

Police found the IP address connected to an address in the 2100 block of Whispering Meadows. Officers took the student into custody at 1104 North Providence Road for making a terroristic threat. They later released him to the Juvenile Office.

An information officer with the Columbia Police Department told KOMU 8 News she cannot disclose what the specific threat was because the case involves a juvenile.

According to a statement from Principal Tony Gragnani to parents, Hickman High School and Columbia Public Schools' safety and security cooperated with the investigation as a student was taken into custody.

Gragnani said he sent the letter to parents to "dispel any rumors."

He also said, "In order for our school to remain a safe haven, we must all work together – parents, staff and community members – to provide the quality environment that our children deserve.  Thank you for your support and assistance in keeping our school environments safe for children."
