UPDATE: Police Still Investigating Tuesday Stabbing
COLUMBIA - Police say they are still investigating a Tuesday evening stabbing. Police said the victim, 19-year-old Damoris Pierce called 911 to report the incident that occurred in the 600 block of Claudell Lane. Pierce was stabbed six times, his current condition is unknown but according to police his wounds were not life threatening.
Pierce's initial statement to police claimed an unknown man attacked him while he was walking down the street. Police say evidence gathered at the scene did not support Pierce's statement.
After canvassing nearby residences police determined the basement of 607 Claudell as the original site of the disturbance. A blood trail led to apartment #1. Officers searched the residence to ensure there were no additional victims in need of medical help. In this search officers encountered 31-year-old Robert Shavers who they suspect is involved in the disturbance. After obtaining a search warrant police recovered the knife they believe was used in the assault. Police say it was apparent the assault had occurred inside the residence.
According to police Shavers indicated the assault was due to an argument over a drug debt. Police say Pierce provided no additional information. No arrests have been made at this time.
