COLUMBIA - The Columbia Downtown Parking Task Force will meet Thursday to discuss the potential for new parking meters downtown. The task force will talk about the parking utility report, which looks at the potential to purchase new single space parking meters with credit and debit card capability.
Members of the task force recommend the city purchases 117 of the new meters for Ninth Street between Broadway and University Avenue and for Broadway between the 900 and 1000 blocks. If the city accepts the proposal, 84 single space meters would be installed on Ninth Street and the other 33 on Broadway.
The project would cost more than $55,000 and take nearly six years to pay back.
