UPDATE: Transmission Line Issue Found as Cause of Power Outage
COLUMBIA - An issue with a transmission line to the Grindstone electrical sub station caused the large power outage Sunday.
Connie Kacprowicz of Columbia Water and Light said at about 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, around 6,000 people were without power.
Kacprowicz said there is protective equipment on the transmission lines. The equipment senses problems in the line and shuts a switch off after the third time an issue occurs. Once it shuts off, crews must go to the equipment to check the line and turn the switch back on.
Kacprowicz said some residents had power back at 10:30 a.m. and the rest had power back at 11:30 a.m.
