As severe weather rolled through mid- Missouri the weekend of March 11th & 12th, the KOMU Weather Plus team was working around-the-clock to provide coverage, keeping area residents safe. And while many television viewers tuned in to the hours of live coverage from the KOMU Weather Plus team, mid-Missouri web users were connecting to KOMU.com. In fact, KOMU.com received more than 680,000 page views on Sunday, March 12th. This is the largest single day of traffic to the site since its December 2005 re-launch.

"KOMU-TV has always provided outstanding severe weather coverage," said KOMU General Manager Marty Siddall. "Now with KOMU.com, our users have that high level of weather coverage available to them 24 hours a day."

Recent Changes Add Weather Features

Upgrades to online weather coverage were central elements in the redesign of KOMU.com. In addition to providing an interactive weather graphics system, KOMU.com provides users with a live stream of KOMU Weather Plus, KOMU's newest broadcast channel that provides around-the-clock weather coverage. KOMU.com's investment in a new content management system, the Avid Active Content Manager, enhanced the site's ability to place weather forecasts throughout the site. And now, wireless users can connect to KOMU Mobile, where they can find current conditions for area cities and Doppler 8 Precision radar right on their phone.

"All of the new technology that we are using with KOMU Weather Plus and KOMU.com helps us to keep mid-Missouri covered during sever weather." said KOMU Weathercaster Dave Schmidt. "Providing complete coverage and keeping families safe and informed is our most crucial responsibility."

Since coming on the air on December 21, 1953, KOMU has been the leader in mid- Missouri in providing quality news and entertaining programming. A wholly owned auxiliary enterprise of the University of Missouri, KOMU serves Missouri citizens both through roles as a television broadcaster and as a teaching lab for the Missouri School of Journalism.
