COLUMBIA - Thursday marks the United States Postal Service's busiest delivery day of the year and the USPS gave tips to keep the holiday delivery season safe.
Columbia Postmaster Mark Rask said residents and business owners should make sure workers have a clear path to mailboxes and front doors. Clearing snow and ice will ensure postal workers have a safe route to deliver mail and packages.
Rask warned delivery service could be delayed if streets or walkways present hazardous conditions for letter carriers.
For anyone who still needs to mail holiday gifts, post offices nationwide will be open Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, but most offices will shorten hours on these dates. All post offices will be closed on December 25 and January 1.
