Utley Throws No-Hitter, CMU Splits With Southwest Baptist

BOLIVAR, MO - Central Methodist softball's Aubrey Utley pitched a complete game, no-hitter to highlight a doubleheader split with NCAA Division II Southwest Baptist on Tuesday. The 20th-ranked Eagles (7-6) won the first game 5-0 but lost the second game 10-2 in five innings.

In the first game, Utley (3-3) struck out 12, while the home team committed seven errors. Kelsey Johnley scored the first run of the game in the second inning off a double by Jordyn Tolliver. Kayla Yount scored the second run in the fourth inning and drove in two in the fifth on a single to left field. The final run of the game came off a sacrifice fly by Rebecca Lipsey.

Central Methodist built a 2-1 lead in the second game through the top of the fourth inning. Courtney Dennis hit a solo shot to left field in the third inning. In the fourth inning, Lipsey scored off a double by Yount. Southwest Baptist scored nine runs in the bottom of the fourth to win the game.

Bri Ford (2-2) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs, three earned, on six hits in 3.1 innings pitched. Rebekah Munday threw two-thirds of an inning of relief, giving up three runs, none earned, on three hits.

The Eagles will participate in the Gulf Coast Invitational on March 9-11. The first game against Bryan is set to begin on March 9 at 2 p.m. CT.
