Vandals Damage Heavy Construction crane
SPRINGFIELD (AP) - Police in Springfield are investigating an expensive act of vandalism at a highway construction site.
KOLR-TV reports (http://bit.ly/sqYC6V ) that someone did substantial damage late last week to a 275-ton construction crane valued at $2 million. Construction crews noticed problems with the
crane's performance and found that a bag of rock salt had been poured into its hydraulic system.
Repairs could cost about $100,000 -- if the crane can even be fixed.
The crane was being used for construction of a flyover at the intersection of James River Freeway and U.S. 65. Investigators hope to hear from anyone who saw suspicious people or vehicles at the site the night of Oct. 27.
