MARSHALL, MO -- The Missouri Valley College men's basketball team wrapped up its play at the Doane Classic in Crete, Nebraska by being defeated by the host school, Doane College, 75-66.
The Vikings were able to go back and forth with Doane through the first 20-minutes of play, building up their largest lead of the game at four points midway through first half. Doane would eventually take a 49-36 advantage into the locker room thanks to nearly 68-percent shooting in the first half, which was enough to distance themselves from the Vikings who shot 50-percent in the half.
In the second half, the Vikings attempted to rally back into the game, cutting the Doane lead to single-digits with nine minutes left in the game, but Doane was able to hold off the Vikings.
Leading the way for MVC was Freshman Jordan Epps who had a team-high 21 points to go along with six rebounds and two assists. Also in double-digits for the Vikings was Senior Michael Connor with had 13 points.
The loss drops MVC to 1-3 on the season while Doane improves to 4-0. Up next for the Vikings is a game with College of the Ozarks Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Burns Athletic Complex.
