MARSHALL, MO -- The Missouri Valley College football team will finish the 2012 regular season as the No. 2 ranked team in the NAIA Football Coaches' Top 25 Poll released Sunday.
The Vikings capped off an undefeated regular season at 10-0 with a win over Central Methodist University Saturday afternoon at Gregg-Mitchell Field 25-6. The win also gave MVC the out-right Heart of America Athletic Conference championship with a 9-0 record. This is the second straight year the Vikings have won the HAAC title, third time under Head Coach Paul Troth, and twelfth time in program history. The undefeated regular season is also the second under Troth, the first coming in 2006.
The Vikings are one of only three teams to finish the regular season undefeated, along with No. 1 ranked Georgetown (Ky.) and No. 3 Morningside (Iowa). All three teams have identical 10-0 records.
Other HAAC teams ranked in the final regular season poll include MidAmerica Nazarene University up to spots to No. 9, Baker University up one spot to No. 11, Benedictine College up three spots to No. 22, and Evangel University down four spots to No. 23.
The Vikings will find out their opponent and location for the opening round of the NAIA Championship Series. The announcement will be made around 3 p.m. Sunday. The opening round will be played Saturday, November 17.
