Volunteers Raise Money for Medical Emergencies
The group of volunteers are trained to respond first, before ambulances arrive at medical emergencies. Volunteers live throughout Cole County, purchase most of their own equipment, and use their own vehicles.
Money raised Saturday will be used for their medical insurance, oxygen tanks and portable deliberators, which alone cost about $3,500.
"People come by and see us that, they look forward to seeing us every year when we do our barbecue and we look forward to seeing them," said Sharon Hodges, volunteer.
The first responders squad originally started to help provide medical assistance back when ambulances were stationed further away.
