COLUMBIA - Voting is now open for the Toyota "100 Cars for Good" program and The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri is in the running to win a new car.
Toyota will give 100 cars away to 100 non-profit organizations over the course of 100 days. Toyota picked The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri as a finalist from 4,000 applications. Four other organizations from around the country are also competing. The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri needs the most votes to win.
You can vote by going to 100CarsForGood.com and logging in with a Facebook account. Then click on the link for The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri. Click vote and then click confirm vote.
As of 5 p.m. Sunday, The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri was in the lead with 37% of the votes. The food bank is competing against organizations in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Evansville, IN, and Tampa, FL. The food bank serves 32 counties in the state and feeds more than 100,000 people every month.
Rachel Ellersieck of The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri says a new car could help the organization do so much more.
"A car will help us increase safety for those employees who are traveling. It will help us increase efficiency and ultimately it will help us feed more people in need across the state of Missouri," Ellersieck said.
Voting started at 9 a.m on Sunday and will close at 11 p.m the same day. The food bank will know whether it won the car by Monday.
