Warm Up Columbia Distributes Free Clothing
COLUMBIA - The Warm Up Columbia program distributed 2,500 winter clothing for people in need this morning after preparation since June.
Kathy Hull initiated this program with the Boone County Voluntary Action Center seven years ago. Now they got support from the Commerce Bank, local churches and an MU student organization.
Hull said they want to help those in need especially when today's economy is not good.
VAC Executive Director Nick Foster said the community embraces the center to serve the community in turn.
"I think because it started locally, it became with the local folks who saw a need," Foster said. "There's a sense of ownership."
The registration record shows that 352 individuals came to the distribution this year. Foster said it's likely to outnumber last year's record although they collected fewer items this year.
