Weather Prompts I-70 Cable Repairs
The numbers prove the guard cables are working, but only when they're upright. The cables are only effective when they are tight, and when the line or posts are damaged, they lose tension not just in the damaged area but all over. Repairs are a never ending job, especially after the winter mid-Missouri has seen.
"We've been a lot busier this year than last year, and stuff like that, but as far as the guard cable, it keeps us busy year round," Shane Zeysing, Superior Rail Systems, said.
It usually takes 3 to 10 days to repair a cable line, but sometimes the cables are down even longer.
"It may take longer than 10 days, depending on the weather. Obviously if it's raining or snowing or icing, they can't get in there and work," Elizabeth Duvall of MODOT said.
