Wentzville police: Man may have stabbed himself, set fire
WENTZVILLE (AP) — Police in the eastern Missouri town of Wentzville say a man found dead in a burning home had stab wounds, but they may have been self-inflicted.
The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis was called in to help investigate the death of 26-year-old Ruben Martinez. His body was found around 1:30 a.m. Sunday inside a home in the St. Charles County town, where a fire broke out.
But the Major Case Squad is off the case after the investigation revealed that Martinez had been despondent. Investigators could not rule out the possibility that Martinez stabbed himself and started the fire intentionally.
Wentzville police continue to investigate.
