Westminster Lady Blue Jays Come Up Short Against Elmhurst

ELMHURST, IL. - The Westminster College Blue Jays chipped away the point difference in the final minutes of the game, but could not shut down Elmhurst's top two shooters in their 79-86 loss Friday evening.

The Blue Jays fell to an early disadvantage against Elmhurst, trailing 10-2 just two minutes into the game. They were able to tie the game twice in the first half, but were never able to grab the lead. The Blue Jays went into halftime down 39-48.

Elmhurst came out strong in the second half, furthering the lead to as much as a 16 point difference. The Blue Jays chipped away at Elmhurst's lead and a layup by Kenna Cornelson brought them within 4 points with 1:37 left in the game. The Blue Jays resorted to fouling to stop the clock, but Elmhurst made 6-8 free throws in the last 30 seconds to win the game 86-79.

Hannah Kloster led the Blue Jays with 20 points, and Cornelson contributed 18 points. Elmhurst had two shooters that held over 50 points combined. Talisha Washington dished 5 assists and led the team with 9 rebounds.

The Blue Jays shot 40% from the field and 29% from the 3 point line, but could not match Elmhurst's 48% from the field.

The Blue Jays head to Chicago, Illinois tomorrow to play the Vikings of North Park University at 2:00 p.m.
