Westminster Sophomore Named "Hitter of the Week"

ST. LOUIS - Westminster sophomore Deion Hughes was named Hitter of the Week by the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference/Diamond Sports.

Hughes, an outfielder from Jefferson City, was given the Hitter of the Week honor Monday. He was key to the Blue Jay offense that scored 32 runs in four games last week, compiling a 3-1 record. Hughes hit .667 on the week, going 8-of-12 at the plate, and had a .733 on-base percentage. Hughes was 7-for-8 in a double header against Lincoln, adding two runs scored and a run batted in.

He picked up another hit and two walks in a double header against Robert Morris-Springfield. For the week, he finished with four runs scored, one stolen base and one RBI with a .667 batting average.

Hughes also pitched the 4-0 shutout win over Robert Morris-Springfield. He pitched the complete game and struck out 12.

Westminster will host Central Methodist for a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 18. Game one begins at 3 p.m.
