Westran Fans React To Tough Loss
HUNTSVILLE - Fans of Westran High School football flocked by the hundreds to St. Louis to watch their team play for the state championship.
Despite the Hornets overtime loss in the title game to Valle Catholic 22-21, fans of the team say they are still proud. The Hornets had a perfect regular season record, but lost the game on the last play - a two-point conversion catch by their opponents.
"We should've won!" exclaimed Mindy Hackett, the manager at Don's Buffet in Huntsville. She thought Hornets quarterback Tyler Hunt played well in the game.
One Huntsville woman estimated that anywhere between 600 and 800 people made the trip to the Edward Jones Dome in downtown St. Louis. The town's population is about 1,500.
The Westran Hornets were the only football team at any level in Mid-Missouri to reach the championship game.
