COLUMBIA - Wilkes Boulevard between North College Avenue and Hickory Street closed Monday to through traffic for Columbia Terminal Railroad crews to upgrade the railroad tracks that cross the street.

The crews dug up the current tracks Monday to replace them later in the week.

Weather permitting, the work will be complete and the road will reopen Friday afternoon.

Public Works spokesperson Connie Kacprowicz said in a press release that "Motorists in this area will need to detour along Hickory Street and Court Street to access either College Avenue or Paris Road."

The Columbia Terminal Railroad (COLT) is the owner of the particular track segment.
