William Woods Men, Women Claim Golf Titles
FULTON - The William Woods University Men and Women's Golf teams each claimed titles Wednesday at the William Woods Spring Invitational.
The No. 4-ranked (NAIA) WWU men's golf team picked up its third straight win of the season, as the Owls won by 41 shots over several area colleges and universities.
AIB College of Business finished in second place (604), while Columbia College (606), Iowa Central CC (647), Mineral Area CC (647), Central Methodist University (694) and Westminster (738) rounded out the scoring behind the Owls.
William Woods Junior Julian Taylor won the invitational for the second straight year after posting two rounds of 68.
Taylor was followed by two fellow Owls, freshman Billy McKenzie who was named AMC Golfer of the Week on Tuesday, and freshman Matt Wells as the duo tied for secondwith rounds of 72 and 69, respectively.
On the women's side of the invitational, William Woods claimed a 21-shot victory over over second place Columbia College (652). Central Methodist (697), Park University (703) and Truman State (735) rounded out the top five.
Avery Rochester from Columbia College was the overall winner, totaling a 151 (77-74; +7), but the two through five spots on the leaderboard were held by William Woods golfers.
