TROY (AP) — A single-engine plane crashed shortly after takeoff when it was hit by a heavy gust of wind in eastern Missouri, but no injuries were reported.
Barry Nuss, spokesman for the Lincoln County Fire Protection District, said the small plane was taking off from the Greensfield Airport near Troy early Sunday when the wind gust pushed it back onto the runway.
The plane lost its front wheel and ended up in a ditch, but the pilot and only passenger were not injured.
A source reports that firefighters were called to contain a fuel leak from the plane.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of the accident.
