Woman and children hurt when man throws rock through windshield
COLUMBIA - Jeffrey Duane Hartley is charged with second degree assault after allegedly throwing a large rock through the windshield of a Columbia resident's car as he drove down Stadium Blvd. with his fiance and 5 children Saturday.
John Paul said he immediatley parked the car and chased after the suspect, but returned to help his fiance after hearing her screaming for help.
Other onlookers pulled over to assist the woman as Paul's 8 year-old-son called paramedics. The woman was then taken to University Hospital where she was treated for a broken orbital socket. None of five children in the car were severly injured.
Hartley, a Columbia resident, was arrested by the Columbia Police Department and posted a $4,500 bail.
