ST. LOUIS (AP) - A 24-year-old St. Louis woman has been accused of trying to kill herself and her infant son by setting her car on fire.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Vanessa Allen was charged Wednesday in St. Louis Circuit Court with eight felony counts, including child abuse and assault. Online court records don't list a lawyer for Allen, whose bond was set at $200,000.
Allen's accused of setting the car on fire June 30 and then changing her mind. She escaped the blaze with the 1-month old child. But authorities said baby suffered smoke inhalation, second- and third-degree burns to his face, head, and the right side of his body.
Allen initially told police that an unknown man had kidnapped her and the infant and set the car on fire.
