Women's Golf Places Sixth in HAAC Tournament

BOONVILLE, MO -- The Central Methodist women's golf team finished sixth overall at the 2012 Heart of America Athletic Conference Women's Golf Tournament. The team carded a two-day total of 788 on the Par-72 Hail Ridge Golf Course.

Kelli Esquivel led the team and finished tied for 13th overall, firing a 187. Jessie Norton placed tied for 17th after compiling a 194. Kayla Esquivel was 20th overall, shootig a two-day score of 197. Mallorie Renth finished 24th with a 210.

Avila won the team portion of the tournament with a low of 715. Culver-Stockton's Megan Miehe won the individual title by one stroke with a two-day low of 163. Both Avila and Miehe advance to the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship in Greeneville, Tenn.

The top eight finishers in the tournament were named to the All-Tournament Team, as there was a two-way tie for the final spot. Miehe is joined by Avila's Mattie Willmore and Emily Ryan, Peru State's Jordan Schaardt, Courtney Musgrave and Katie Potter, Baker's Stacy Yowell and Bristol Brandt, and Graceland's Keeley Brunner.

Wilmore was named the league's Player of the Year. Avila's Robin Nigro was selected Coach of the Year.

Peru State and Baker tied for second place in the team portion of the tournament, and both teams played a one-hole playoff on the first hole to decide the winner of the Runner-Up trophy. The Bobcats defeated the Wildcats by three strokes to claim the hardware.
