Wood to be Tried On Charges of Kidnapping, Rape and Murder
SPRINGFIELD - KY3 in Springfiled reports a judge in Greene County ruled Thursday Craig Michael Wood, the man accused of kidnapping and killing a Springfield girl, can be tried for kidnapping, rape and murder.
KY3 reports Associate Curcuit Judge Mark Powell heard a recording of a 9-1-1 call from a woman who saw the kidnapping of 10-year-old Hailey Owens on February 18. The recording was one of several pieces of evidence presented in the preliminary hearing Thursday.
A Springfield police officer also testified at the hearing that Wood appeared startled when officers approached him in his driveway.
KY3 reports an FBI agent later testified a folder with written pornographic stories about a girl named Hailey was found inside Wood's home. Wood's attorney objected to the discussion of the stories, claiming there was no proof Wood wrote them. The judge later overruled that objection after hearing a counter argument from Prosecuting Attorney Dan Patterson.
Wood's case now goes to curcuit court where he will appear on June 30. Wood remains jailed without bond.
