Woodworth's 3rd trial pushed back to September
PLATTE CITY (AP) - A northwest Missouri man will wait a few more months before going to trial for the third time on charges that he fatally shot his neighbor more than two decades ago.
Mark Woodworth of rural Chillicothe was 16 when Cathy Robertson was shot and killed Nov. 13, 1990, and her husband, Lyndel Robertson, was shot but survived.
Woodworth, now 39, was first convicted in 1995 but that was overturned on appeal. A second jury found him guilty four years later and sentenced him to life in prison, but he was freed on bail last year after the Missouri Supreme Court overturned his second conviction.
The third trial was scheduled to start later this month, but last week the state was granted a continuance until Sept. 26.
