Youth Enjoy County Fair
CALLAWAY COUNTY - The Kingdom of Callaway County Fair is off to a roaring start, despite rising temperatures. Event officials expected attendance to dip this year due to the extreme heat. However, Tuesday's opening night saw more people pass through the gates than last year.
One of the biggest draws Wednesday was Bucket Calf Show. The show, specifically for kids and their calves drew entrants from all over the county.
"This is what it's all about," said Livestock Superintendent Tommy Lee. "It's all about the youth."
10-year-old Fulton resident Alexa Jones and her calf, "Big Guy," walked away with the showmanship award.
"It's not even about winning," Jones said. "It's about the experience and why you do it. It's all about haing fun."
Her parents agree. They say this is something Alexa has been looking forward to all year.
"This is definitely a high point for them," said Alexa's dad, Jeff. "They always are looking forward to it."
The fair will run through Saturday.
