First Alert Forecast

Freezing rain will move through mid-Missouri tonight. Elevated surfaces such as signs, trees, poles, and vehicles will see the ice accumulation first. Roads (excluding bridges) have the support of warmer soil that will limit the onset of ice accumulation. In fact, most slick spots will hold off until the rain end late tonight and wet roads try to slowly freeze over with black ice. Roads that are treated late tonight should be good to go Wednesday morning, other roads will need to be monitored for black ice.

Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for Pettis, Saline and Chariton counties until midnight. Another set of Winter Weather Advisories will be issued over the Lake of the Ozarks from midnight until 10am Wednesday. The rest of mid-Missouri, including Columbia and Jefferson City, are under a Winter Weather Advisory until 6am Wednesday.

Wednesday will be mostly cloudy with some moisture trying to stick around. Any remaining moisture that tries to fall will be met with much colder temperatures, resulting in freezing drizzle; this may create slick spots on Wednesday. Stay tuned as we see how this system develops and how much moisture wants to hold on.

Thursday morning has a another chance for freezing rain, drizzle and sleet. This time, roads will likely be cold enough to create ice accumulations. Expect icy roads on Thursday morning.

Rain chances are again in the forecast for Friday and Saturday, but look on the lighter side at this point. Temperatures will be warm enough that only rain is expected. We'll dry off on Sunday.
