First Alert Forecast
The heat wave continues and we are nearing its peak. Excessive heat warnings are still in effect through Saturday evening where temps today and Saturday are expected near 100 degrees with a heat index around 107 to 110.
Open skies filled with sunshine and a developing wind out from the southwest will only add to the drying of soils and may increase stress levels on vegetation and animals.
This developing wind is a sign that air currents in the jet stream may be picking up and a passing system may be looming. By Saturday evening, a very slow moving cold front will be approaching Missouri and may pop a few thunderstorms after sunset. Chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue on and off throughout the day on Sunday as the front passes through the state.
By Monday, cooler air will begin to replace the once hot, humid environment over central Missouri. Temps early next week will be in the upper 80s with slight chances for rain
