College Prep Timeline
Tuesday October 30 2007

Many families are gearing up for the holiday season, which is just around the corner.  But, if you have a high school student you should be focusing on creating a timeline that will provide an opportunity for college admissions.

Sophomores:

1)      Take the ACT in the latter part of the year to establish a baseline.

2)      Make a dedicated effort to make sure your study skills are solid and that your reading rate is where is should be (700-800 wpm).

3)      Look at and begin to organize finances.

Juniors:

1)      Complete the ACT again by the end of the year; this will entail seeking outside help if your previous score was below the minimum required score at the school of your choice.  The highest possible ACT score is 35 and Sylvan has helped students achieve this score.

2)      Begin the College Selection process

3)      Continue analyzing finances; look at savings, scholarships, etc.

Seniors:

1)      Finalize your College selections.

2)      Apply as soon as possible: Many colleges off an early enrollment discount.

3)      Complete scholarship applications.

4)      Finish in style: you’ve worked this hard, finish the year strong!
