JEFFERSON CITY - Tuesday, St. Mary's Health Center Auxiliary brought "Autism the Musical" to town.

About 50 people came to see the award winning documentary shown at the N.H Scheppers Distributing Company.

St. Mary's Auxiliary wanted to bring more information to the community about autism.

The film features five children living with autism and shows the challenges they face every day.

In the film, the five children join together to create a musical theater program.

The children learn to interact and communicate with one another through performance.

Sue Danner, a local parent, shared her story about having a 23 year old son with autism.

She told the parents and teachers at the event that it is possible for those with autism to live an independent life.

"If they (parents) stay focused on what they want for their child, that it is attainable and that the community needs to open their arms to children with disabilities, that they can really be an added resource to their facilities," Danner said.

This event ended a year long statewide autism education effort.
