COLUMBIA - It was a beautiful first day of summer and great weather to celebrate Father's Day.

The heat didn't keep Columbia residents Jeff Parker and his son, Jack, from sharing some quality time together on the golf course at Gustin Golf Course. The weather teed up the perfect day for dads to get out and enjoy themselves. And although the heat index rose to above 90, for Jack, the golf course was the coolest place to be on this Father's Day.

"You get to spend time with him," Jack said. "Enjoy what he has done for us, just kind of hang out with him, stuff like that."

Jeff and his son didn't hit the greens alone.

"We came out to Gustin, kind of a Father's Day thing," Jeff said. "[Jack is] playing with his godfather who is my uncle, who plays golf a lot, too. And I'm playing with my brother, as well, so it's kind of a family event."

A family event, that isn't without some friendly competition. Jack says right now his dad is a better golfer but he is determined to surpass his dad's skills with some more practice.

Father's Day doesn't just have the power to bring people together on the golf course. It also reunites memories of those fathers and sons who have meant so much.

"Father's Day for me is just spending time with my son and spending time with my dad too," Jeff said. "I spent some time with my dad last night, and it's just kind of a good day to reflect back on your dad and your son and spend some quality time with them."

Quality time that spells Happy Father's Day, when words aren't needed.

According to Hallmark, Father's Day is the fourth largest card sending holiday in the United States with 110 million cards exchanged annually.
