MOBERLY - Gas prices keep dropping, but some Moberly residents feel it is not happening fast enough.

They wonder why gas in their town is more expensive than in Columbia.  If you buy gas in Moberly you will pay around 15 cents more per gallon than in Columbia, leaving some residents wondering why a bigger city only 30 minutes away has lower prices.

AAA says there is no simple answer, but the frequency of deliveries, the cost of transporting the fuel and the degree of area competition can all add to the increase in price. Moberly resident Travis Roberts has noticed the difference.

"I travel down south once or twice a month to visit my parents and there is a big difference between the gas prices down there and up here", said Roberts. "Some people say there are different prices in Columbia and that's only thirty minutes away."

Some commuting residents said they make sure to fill up in Columbia before heading home.

St. Louis has some of the cheapest average gas in the country at $3.31 per gallon. Gas in Springfield costs on average $3.33. Kansas City costs higher on average at $3.55. This compares to Columbia, where gasoline costs $3.39 on average.
