COLUMBIA - Candidates running to represent the First Ward of Columbia held an open forum for the public Monday night.
Members of the community gathered at St. Paul A.M.E. Church to learn more about the candidates and their ideas. Each candidate was allowed equal time to make a statement and answer questions.
John Clark, who's running against Almeta Crayton claims it's time for a change.
"When I'm offended by things, I go and do something about them," said Clark. "Or I got and attempt to do something about them. And that's what I've been doing. And I'm going to ask for your vote and support. Because frankly, Almeta, whatever Almeta, with her skill set can do in nine years, she's done. But too much has not changed."
Out of the four candidates running for First Ward, Karen Baxter and Paul Sturtz were unable to attend the open forum.
The Fifth Ward is also up for re-election next week. Laura Nauser holds that seat, and no one is running against her.
