COLUMBIA - MoDOT worries construction zones may cause even more problems with Memorial Day weekend.
MoDOT is working to alert drivers through a new list of the top 10 "work zones to lookout for" in the state.
Interstate 70 can be a dangerous road, especially during construction. A closed lane on I-70 led to a fatal crash near Providence Road May 5. This stretch is bad enough for MoDOT officials to put it on the top ten construction zones drivers need to look out for this summer. I-70 at Stadium Boulevard running to the Missouri River bridge in Boonville ranked number three on that list. William ford, who uses I-70 to visit his family across the state, says the road is in desperate need of attention.
"Well, it just needs to be repaired. You have holes and pits and stuff that does damage to your car tires and what have you." said William Ford, who drives I-70 regularly.
"We want motorists, of course, to be prepared before they go, and when they know that there is a potential for delay, they may be able to take another route to their destination or at least know they could expect delays in case they need to leave earlier," explained MoDOT spokesperson Kristi Jamison.
Other areas making the top 10 include Highway 63 in Macon and Randolph Counties, three locations in Kansas City and two more in St. Louis
