LAKE OZARK - A violation of the Clean Water Act will cost the City of Lake Ozark $50,000.

More than 10,000 gallons of sewage spewed into the Lake of the Ozarks after pumps stopped working in 2007.

Now, more than a year later, Lake Ozark agreed to pay a $50,000 fine over a five year period.

"At our expense, not happy at all. I actually think the city, if they're getting off with what they say they're getting fined, got off fairly cheap," Osage Beach Resident Dennis Oelschlager said.

City officials said they fixed the break last year.

Now, the department of Natural Resources hopes to negotiate with Lake Ozark on a plan hold to the city responsible for cleanup.

"The city of the Lake of the Ozarks has had numerous bypass and overflows of their sewage collection system. Some of those reached the Lake of the Ozarks. The department, after an investigation in the developing case, is in the process of trying to correct those violations," Water Pollution Control Branch Chief Robert Morrison said.

City officials said they won't comment while the matter is still in court.

In the meantime, residents are still waiting.

City officials expect to hear about the plea agreement within the next two weeks.
