COLUMBIA - Democrats gathered at the Blue Note to watch as Barack Obama officially accepted his position as presidental candidate.

Two young men traveled to Columbia from Denver tonight for the party.

They said they couldn't get tickets to the convention, and the watch party was the next best thing.

Others came to recruit voters, or even to color Obama posters.

Some say the event was a means to share in what they are calling is the most exciting time in our nation's history.

"As an African American, as a young American, seeing Barack Obama 45 years after M.L.K's "I Have A Dream Speech" and years after slavery, to think that we have an African American nominated by a major Democratic party, I'm really excited," Obama Supporter Christian Holley said.

Obama supporter John Fry agreed.

"This is the greatest event of my life. This is the first election I have been entirely excited about, had hope and prospect about. We are speaking about issues important to me," Fry said.

And the presidential parties aren't over yet. Next week, KOMU will take you inside a watch party for the National Republican Convention, where John McCain will accept his role as the Republican Presidential Candidate.
