COLUMBIA - The J.W. 'Blind' Community Center will showcase its new face-lift Friday after completing an eight-month renovation project.
The center, located on North Providence, will host an open-house including a ribbon cutting ceremony and a performance from the Moving Ahead youth chorus beginning at 4 p.m.
Eight months ago the project started with funding from the community development block grant. The center now consolidates the youth education, family-sufficiency programs, and resident services into one place. Improvements in the Community Center include an upgraded alarm system, additional outside lighting, new security cameras, a new electrical system, and new flooring. The community housing authority said the improvements were needed for better energy savings and increased safety. The project was designed with safety and energy cost savings in mind.
