RUSSELLVILLE - The Cole County Health Department will hold a public H1N1 flu clinic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Russellville High School.
The event is open to priority groups only at this time. This includes pregnant women, household contacts of pregnant women, and household contacts or caregivers of infants under six months of age. Priority groups also include children six months of age to those 24 years of age, adults 25-64 years old if they have chronic medical conditions, and health care workers and EMS personnel with direct patient contact. Those 65 and older are not in one of the priority groups because studies show they are less likely to be diagnosed with H1N1.
The H1N1 vaccine is free and will be held on a first come, first served basis. The Health Department requests attendees to wear short-sleeves to make it easier to receive the shot. Anyone who is unable to attend the event and who's in a priority group may attend future public H1N1 flu clinics. They can also check with their physician to see if the vaccine is available. There will also be a public H1N1 flu clinic in Jefferson City on Nov. 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The general public will be allowed to take the vaccine once vaccines are available and after priority groups are adequately vaccinated.
