FAYETTE - The new expansion to Mulberry Street will cost an extra $34,000 which brings the project to $125,900.
The new cost will be spilt by the city of Fayette and Central Methodist University.
The construction company convinced the City Council and the University to fix the other side of the road.
Julee Sherman, CMU's Vice President of Finance, said the upgrade was needed because the road was in such disrepair. "The repairs will help the traffic flow on the road, it will also address the major drainage problem on the road," she said.
Kenny Street, a long time resident on Mulberry, said he is a little scared that the improvements will make the road too busy. "I just don't want it to turn into a race way, there is a lot of people that live at the end of the street,"Street explained.
Construction was supposed to take only a month to complete, but because of the added construction three more weeks will be tacked on to the completion time.
Marianne Inman, CMU's President, said she hopes the construction will get done in a timely fashion.
"This project is well worth the time and money," Inman said. "We will try to get it done as soon as possible."
