JEFFERSON CITY - Missouri entered into an agreement with Louisiana to set up shelters for several thousand Louisiana citizens in light of Hurricane Gustav. Some several thousand Louisiana citizens are going to be air evacuated to Missouri starting Sunday afternoon. "I applaud the Missouri communities who stepped up to the plate to operate shelters for our neighbors in Louisiana. These local governments and volunteer organizations demonstrate how compassionate and prepared Missourians are to help our fellow citizens during their time of need," Governor Blunt said. The Missouri Department of Social Services, the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Convoy of Hope and Southern Baptists will manage the sheltering, feeding and bulk distribution operations in many areas throughout Missouri, including Kansas City, St. Joseph, Springfield, Jefferson City, Cape Girardeau, St. Louis and Hannibal.
