KINGDOM CITY - The state has a resolution of its own for the new year and it could help fuel the economy.

The new year brings in new laws and that means starting next Tuesday, missouri gas stations must carry ethanol-blended gas. When the law goes into effect this new year, every gas station in missouri has to have at least 10 percent ethanol in their tank.

"It's a real popular issue," said Ron Atkinson, the owner of gaspers gas station. "Obviously the principle behind it is to eliminate some of our dependency on foreign crude oil due to the prices and situations."

The only way for a consumer to not use ethanol is by choosing the premium option; the only one exempt from the law. Still consumers like Sach Agrawal, don't mind the law.

"I don't see any problems," Agrawal said. "It's safer version of gasoline, ethanol as a long-term would get us renewable energy resource for the day to day routine travel, cars will reduce pollution and if we are less dependent on gasoline, in the future we can still use the same car."

As for some gas stations, using ethanol is no big deal as well.

"We've been involved with ethanol for the past two years, so it's not anything new to us," Atkinson said.

The law will ensure the lowest gas prices. If and when ethanol is more expensive than regular petroleum, the law says stations must go without the ethanol product.
