JEFFERSON CITY- The Samaritan Center receives 50 units for those in need.

Ameren-UE donated 400 air conditioning units to six agencies across Missouri as a part of their "Be Cool" program.  The energy-star rated units are available to people of low-income, are elderly or have a health issue within the family.  The program is designed to provide those without units with one, as well as to inform those who already have one that it is important to use them during times of extreme heat.

The Samaritan Center in Jefferson City is just one of the six agencies to receive air conditioners.  They got 50 units total and have already given away 14.  If you or someone in your family has a health issue you can provide a note from your doctor to find out if you are eligible for a unit.  Also, if your families income falls below the poverty line, you may be eligible.  To receive a unit you can go to the Samaritan Center during their normal food pantry hours, which are Monday through Thursday 9am-12pm with an extra two hours on Thursday from 4-6pm.

Other agencies that recieved units were the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, the Urban League of St. Louis County, the Jefferson County Health Department, St. Joachim and Ann in St. Charles, and the Southeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging.
