JEFFERSON CITY - A virtual school is close to becoming a reality in Missouri. Lawmakers passed a bill Tuesday and sent it to Gov. Blunt to create an online school, starting with the 2007-2008 school year.

The school would use the Internet to link students to teachers, textbooks and tests.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education said the school will start with about 500 students and grow gradually.
