COLUMBIA - Does population influence news coverage? It's a question a viewer in a small community asked KOMU News.

KOMU loves news tips. The more people that call and e-mail the station to let KOMU know what's going on, the better the news.

KOMU's viewing area covers 14 counties, all the way from Macon to the Lake area, and from Montgomery City to Sedalia. Some people in our viewing area don't feel KOMU covers their county enough.

"Why is there not more news from Howard County?" Sheryl Schaefer asked."The only news we see is the bad part, never any stories about the good things that happen. Also, Glasgow has a really good basketball team with the support of the whole town, but got only a blurb on the evening news. We feel we are just as important to the news as Columbia or Callaway County."

A search of the KOMU News archive shows six stories from Howard County aired last month, that includes reports from Fayette, Armstrong and Glasgow.

KOMU assignment editor Randy Reeves said, "Sometimes it seems like we may have not come to one particular town in a long time. But today alone, we are going to Marshall and to Kingdom City. Earlier in the week we were down where the flooding is. Any other day you might see us go to a number of small towns. It is such a big area in the 14 counties."

If you'd like to submit a story idea from your county, just go to our Web site at KOMU.com. There you'll also find a way to weigh in with your view. Then watch Friday nights at Six as we report Your View of the news.
