13-Year-Old Dies in ATV Accident

MONITEAU COUNTY - According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 13-year-old Matthew Merrill of California, MO lost control of his ATV sometime around 1:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Merrill failed to negotiate a curve, causing him to run off of Birdhaven Road, 1.2 miles north of Pea Ridge Road. He struck a tree and was ejected from the ATV. Merrill was taken to Western Regional Fire Station and pronounced dead at 2:00 p.m.

The report indicates that vehicle safety devices were used.
