MINDEN (AP) - A 25-vehicle convoy from the Missouri National Guard has arrived in northern Louisiana just hours after Hurricane Gustav hit land farther south. About 60 members of the 1139th Military Police Company left Harrisonville, Missouri, at noon yesterday. They stayed overnight outside Little Rock, Arkansas, at Camp Robinson, and hit the road again today to drive to Minden, outside Shreveport. Captain Doug McConnell, who commands the 1139th, says the trip was pretty successful with no breakdowns or accidents. The group join about 500 other Missouri National Guard troops in Louisiana. It was unclear what the 1139th would be doing in Louisiana post-Gustav. But policing evacuated or flooded areas was likely as were other jobs, like traffic control, water rescues, or sandbagging.
